After relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina from Central Ohio in 2011, Roberto served in a number of domestic and international humanitarian ministry efforts. He also regularly served in a local homeless ministry. In this capacity, a group routinely traveled to an uptown location, under a bridge and fed the homeless of Charlotte while they were ministered to.

In support of this program, Salema led a ministry that provided homemade cookies, packaged with a word of encouragement and helpline to call for assistance and prayer. It spread across all aspects of their lives. This led them to co-found Compassion’s Way Inc! They have since moved back to Ohio, armed with the task of showing Jesus to "the least of us".

Roberto is a former business owner and public speaker. He manages daily operations of Compassion's Way. He builds relations with existing entities who are difference-makers in the community. They include resource allocation providers and community leaders. He identifies and supervises work projects for some of the men and women Compassion's Way serve. He is also the team lead for street and venue outreach.

Salema is a Chief Data Officer for a large, managed service provider. Her corporate relationships and team-building skills enable her to secure sponsorship and manage Compassion's Way's volunteer network.

They have two children, Sariya and RJ, who serve and lead different aspects of the ministry.
